THIS IS FALSE!
In our last couple of blogs, we have been discussing what exactly endometriosis is and the misunderstandings around it.
Endometriosis gets its name because the inflamed tissue LOOKS LIKE the endometrium (the lining of the uterus), but it is NOT the actual lining of the uterus!
Endometriosis has nothing to do with the uterus itself.
The tissue, which can be anywhere in the body, responds to cyclical hormones that would trigger the endometrium to shed.
Even if the uterus is removed, we still get cyclical hormones that trigger the inflamed tissue.
Furthermore, as endometriosis progresses and has caused adhesions, pain can become constant/chronic and not necessarily associated with cyclical hormones changes anymore.
A hysterectomy does not remove the inflamed tissue.
If you’ve been told that a hysterectomy is the solution to your endometriosis pain, it’s understandable to feel hopeful but also confused if symptoms persist.
The reality is that endometriosis is a complex, whole-body condition, and lasting relief often requires more than one approach.
Pelvic floor physical therapy plays an important role in managing pain, improving mobility of affected tissues, and addressing the muscle and nerve components that continue to contribute to symptoms, with or without surgery.
You deserve clear answers and a care plan that fully supports your body.
